Dr Markus Körner advises clients regarding the protection of intellectual property, in particular trade mark, competition and design law as well as copyright and domain name law, with a focus on strategic advice, litigation and contract law (particularly licence agreements). His clients include national and international companies of different sizes and from various industries, not least the field of technology. His work further includes the international coordination of proceedings and projects (e.g. in advertising issues) for clients. The JUVE Handbuch 2008/09 called him "successful and very skilful despite the difficult legal situation". Apart from that, he comprehensively works in the fields of sports and media law, particularly on TV rights agreements, sponsoring and licence agreements.
Markus was admitted to the Munich bar in 2000 and has been working for Bird & Bird in Munich as a "founding member" since the office was established in 2003. Before that, he worked for the law firm Unger & Duvinage (formerly Meyer-Wölden) in Munich from 2000 until 2003. During his time there, he advised not only companies, but also sports associations, professional teams, agencies, high-profile sportsmen and artists. Markus studied law at the Universities of Bonn and Lausanne (Switzerland) from 1991 until 1996. Between 1996 and 1998, he did his doctorate at Prof. Meinhard Heinze’s Chair for Employment Law and Law of Social Security at the University of Bonn. He served his articles in Cologne between 1998 and 2000. Markus is a member of the German Intellectual Property Rights Association (GRUR), of MARQUES and of the International Sports Lawyers Association (ISLA), amongst others. Markus is an appointed arbitrator of the German Court of Arbitration of Sports (DIS).
Markus regularly gives talks and publishes texts, particularly on topics regarding the protection of industrial property.
