Michael Schidler has been working in Bird & Bird’s Hamburg office since 2011, and his areas of specialisation include trademark, copyright, media and unfair competition law. He has considerable expertise in these areas, particularly in connection with technological and internet-related matters and the new media technologies. Thus, for instance, Michael Schidler has advised a leading global company within the telecommunications sector in connection with international domain name disputes and social networks (“social media”) and has offered an e-commerce provider ongoing advice in out-of-court settlements of IP-related disputes and on provider liability issues.

Michael Schidler studied the law of media and information technology (“Informationsrecht”) at the University of Applied Sciences, Darmstadt, thus already focussing on the field of industrial property law and media law during his studies, and accordingly addressed legal issues surrounding copyright exploitation in the field of the new media in his diploma dissertation. Also during his studies, Michael Schidler worked within the Content and Rights of Use department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and as a research assistant at the Institute for “Informationsrecht” at the University of Applied Sciences , Darmstadt.

Before joining Bird & Bird, Michael Schidler worked for more than four years at the international law firm Hogan Lovells in the field of Intellectual Property, Media & Technology at their offices in Munich and Hamburg.
