Jan is a member of Bird & Bird’s Intellectual Property practice group, focusing on Patent Law.

He studied law at the University of Münster. He completed an additional degree in IT, telecommunication and media law and on industrial property protection. In 2010, he was awarded his doctor’s degree with a dissertation on the implications of the European directive concerning unfair business-to-consumer commercial practices to German jurisdiction on the relationship of Trademark Law and the Law of unfair competition.

During his legal traineeship Jan worked for an international law firm in Düsseldorf as well as for a medium sized law firm in Cologne in all fields of intellectual property and copyright law. He is author of several papers in the fields of trademark law and copyright law.

He joined Bird & Bird immediately after his exams in May 2012.
