Oxfam International is a confederation of 12 organisations working together in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice. Bird & Bird works with Oxfam’s in-house legal team and provides advice on a wide range of Intellectual Property (IP) issues.
Keep A Child Alive
Keep A Child Alive provides life-saving medication, support and orphan care to African children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. Fundraising includes the annual Black Tie Ball in honour of those doing humanitarian work with HIV and AIDS in Africa and India. Bird & Bird has provided legal advice and handled a dispute for the charity.
The Red Cross
Bird & Bird works with the Red Cross providing legal advice on a variety of issues. The cases Bird & Bird assist with are often quite complicated – for example leasing arrangements and more recently advising on matters relating to a film in connection with a high-profile fundraising event.
Competition Law Pro Bono Scheme
Through this scheme individuals and businesses receive free legal advice concerning the possible impact of the European Union Competition Rules and national competition law on business activities in the UK or the European Economic Area. Competition Partner Richard Eccles and solicitors Jeremy Robinson and Louis Baner provide free expert advice through the Competition Law Pro Bono Scheme to individuals and businesses who believe that their rights under competition law have been infringed or who are concerned that they may be infringing.
Knowing Your Laws
Lawyers in the Bird & Bird Madrid office are working on the "Knowing Your Laws" programme in collaboration with the Madrid Local Government. The programme mainly helps immigrants who are living in Madrid. The collaboration will initially take place between May to December 2009 and may extend into 2010.
Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra is one of the best-known Hungarian chamber orchestras and was established more than 40 years ago. Andras Lendvai, a lawyer in our Budapest office, has provided assistance to the Orchestra in relation to the implementation of measures required under a new state support scheme.
