As a partner in our Dispute Resolution Practice and co-head of our Media Group in the Netherlands, based in The Hague, I specialise in civil litigation, with a particular focus on Media, Internet and IT.

With more than 25 years of experience, I am regarded as a seasoned litigator. One client referred to me as a "civilised streetfighter". Personally, I look at myself as a strategic thinker and a trouble shooter.

I have handled a wide variety of cases. Some of them resulted in landmark decisions, some were high profile and media sensitive, and some extremely urgent. But, without exception, I have enjoyed taking up the challenges of each and every case and working together with my clients in a joint effort to obtain the best possible result.

Litigators at Bird & Bird are often called upon in complex matters and find themselves at the forefront of disruptive technologies and innovations. I am no exception. I have developed expertise in a variety of IT and internet related matters relating to issues such as intermediary liability and embedded linking. New technologies often redefine the legal landscape, and being part of that is both challenging and rewarding.

As co-head of the Dutch Media Group I have developed a particular expertise in media related matters. The expertise of the Dutch Media Group is widely recognised (Tier 1 Legal 500) and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. I have enjoyed working with these experts on a number of challenging cases involving complex issues of copyright, regulatory, privacy and image rights. My expertise also includes freedom of speech, press law and advertising law.

Over the years I have also developed expertise in the field of crisis and reputation management. I have worked closely with communication experts in numerous high profile cases, often behind the scenes, but also in court when required.

I am a member of the editorial board of Mediaforum, the legal review for the media industry. In that capacity I have published numerous commentaries on media and internet related topics. I am a member of a number of professional associations including the Association for Media and Communication law and the Association for Dutch Procedural Law. I am also recognised as a Leading Individual by Legal 500.
