The Australian High Court has dismissed an appeal that was made by three Australian media organisations in relation to third-party comments made on their Facebook pages. The court found that the media companies facilitated, encouraged and thereby assisted the posting of comments by third party Facebook users. As a result the court held the media companies liable as publishers of those comments for the purposes of defamation.
