OSA – A guide to illegal harms risk assessment and implementation

2025 is the “year of action” for the UK’s Online Safety Act, with in-scope services required to conduct their first illegal content risk assessments by 16 March 2025. It is expected that the illegal content safety duties themselves will become binding from 17 March 2025.

Need to know where to start, or stuck on how to make more progress? Join our Bird & Bird experts, Emma Drake and Heather Catchpole, who have digested the extensive Ofcom guidance and codes of practice issued in mid-December 2024, and are ready to help guide you and your service through the immediate illegal content to-do list.

This session will do a deep dive on the risk assessment process. We will cover:

  • How to work through the Ofcom guidance and structure your approach to documenting your assessment;
  • How to identify and efficiently gather the required evidence; and
  • How to choose and prioritise implementation of measures in preparation for illegal harms duties coming into force.

Our experts will be joined in this discussion by Silvia Fukuoka from Ofcom, who led the regulator team that prepared the final risk assessment guidance, and Haneen Qarout from Tremau, who has been working with a number of service providers already working on their illegal harms risk assessments.

Book your spot to avoid missing out on a session full of key practical takeaways.
