Meeting specific climate and energy targets and increasing the energy generated by renewable sources are still very important political aims. Considering the volatility of renewable energy, the storage of energy is of the essence. Conversely, it is hard to imagine that the ambitious targets will be met without the integration of well-functioning energy storage facilities. Therefore, energy storage is not only a disruptive technology, but also an essential piece of future energy supply.

German legal key issues

Energy storage is mainly ruled by the German Renewable Energy Act (German EEG) and by the German Energy Industry Act (German EnWG).
