EU AI rulebook enters last phase of negotiations

The Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) aims to create a regulatory framework for the development and use of AI in the European Union that ensures safety, transparency, and respect for fundamental rights. The Commission’s proposal for an AI Act, was presented in April 2021, and is now entering the last phase of inter-institutional negotiations, so-called “trilogues”. EU lawmakers will meet in the coming weeks to try and hash out the remaining open issues with the aim of finding a political deal on a final text before the end of 2023.
