At the close of the mandate and looking forward to the European elections, so far, it has been an exciting year in terms of European regulatory developments. In this edition, we take stock of the Commission’s work programme 2020-2024 and what was achieved. We dive into the outcome of thse political agreement on the Artificial Intelligence Act and share some observations on the agreement and the insights from the in-person AI event held at the Bird & Bird Offices in Brussels on 19 March. We also look into the eIDAS regulation reform, a Dutch Telecoms Digest, the EU Space Law initiative and how the EP and Council reached a provisional agreement on the European Health Data Space.

Analysing the impact of the EU AI Act vote on businesses

In a pivotal move, the European Parliament conducted a plenary vote on the proposed Artificial Intelligence Act today, as indicated in the updated draft agenda. Following the final vote, the AI Act is set to come into force 20 days after its publication in the official journal.

One step closer to the final publication of the eIDAS regulation reform

On 29 February 2024, the European Parliament approved the proposal to amend the eIDAS Regulation, with the Council’s approval expected to be in March.
