In-Depth: Space Law – Edition 5

Bird & Bird has contributed to the 5th edition of ‘In-Depth: Space Law’ (formerly ‘The Space Law Review’) published by Lexology.

This online resource includes a ‘practice overview of the legal and regulatory frameworks governing space and satellite activities across key jurisdictions worldwide. With a focus on the most salient recent developments in this fast-evolving sector, it analyses the distinctive features of the law and commercial practice in each jurisdiction and looks at potential future trends’.

‘In-Depth: Space Law’ contains updates from Bird & Bird’s Satellite & Space activities experts, with Thomas Jones, Matthew Bovaird and Dylan McGirr contributing the chapter on Australia, Willy Mikalef for France, and, new for 2024, a contribution from our Italian Space Lawyers, Federico Marini Balestra and Lucia Antonazzi. Additional jurisdictions featured  include Brazil, Canada, China, Estonia, Germany, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Thailand, the UK and USA, and new chapters were included this year for Latvia and Saudi Arabia.

For each jurisdiction, authors explored the regulation in practice, reflected on the key highlights from the past year and also provided an outlook for the future.

In the Editors Preface, the authors were praised for sharing their insights, ‘I am grateful to all of the contributors to the fifth edition of In-Depth: Space Law. Their practical knowledge of their respective legal and regulatory frameworks – and related challenges, risks and solutions – makes this series of books unique. I wish them success for the years ahead in the space domain and to solving increasingly challenging issues.’
