Frederick Mostert joins Bird & Bird as Of Counsel in London

International law firm Bird & Bird is pleased to announce the arrival of Frederick Mostert, who joins the London IP team as Of Counsel.

An eminent figure in the IP world, Frederick is Past President of the International Trademark Association and the current President of the Luxury Law Alliance. He also has valuable in-house experience, having served as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and Chief Legal Counsel of luxury group Richemont, which includes world famous brands such as Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, Alfred Dunhill, and Chloé.

Frederick is a Professor of Practice in Intellectual Property Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College London, where he won the 'Rising Star' Teaching Excellence Award in 2018. He is also a Research Fellow at the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre, University of Oxford, and a Research Fellow at the Research Centre for Intellectual Property Law of Tsinghua University, Beijing. He also founded the Digital Scholarship Institute and Digilabs.

He has contributed to several books – including as Principal Author of the internationally recognised title Famous and Well-known Marks – An International Analysis - and his op-eds have been featured in the Financial Times and the South China Morning Post.

In 2015 he was inducted into the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame, which honours those who have helped establish intellectual property as one of the key business assets of the 21st century. Frederick's notable past pro-bono work includes legal assistance to President Nelson Mandela and the Shaolin Monks.

Frederick will be continuing with his academic career and is bringing his part time consultancy practice over to Bird & Bird. He will also be available to advise clients on high level strategic projects.
