Bird & Bird advises CDP Venture Capital on Series A investment into Naturbeads

International law firm Bird & Bird has advised CDP Venture Capital, the largest venture capital manager in Italy, in connection with its recent investment in UK start-up Naturbeads, as part of a £7.8 million Series A round.

Naturbeads, a Bath University-founded startup, produces biodegradable cellulose microspheres as an alternative to microplastics in various products including cosmetics, detergents, and paints. Their innovative approach aims to reduce environmental pollution by replacing harmful microplastics with sustainable, natural materials.

The Series A funding round will allow Naturbeads to further develop its pioneering technology that aims to address worldwide microplastic pollution.

CDP Venture Capital, headquartered in Rome, Italy, is a venture capital firm that invests in seed-stage, early-stage, growth-stage, and later-stage companies across various sectors. These include consumer products, energy, healthcare, and technology.

The Bird & Bird team consisted of partners Adam Meisels (Corporate, London) and Calogero Porrello (Corporate, Milan), and associates Benjamin Simon (Corporate, London), Sara Calamitosi (Corporate, Milan) and Caitlin Cowan (Corporate, London).

Adam Meisels, lead partner on the transaction, commented: “We are pleased to have assisted CDP with this investment. Recent studies on the dangers of microplastics to both wildlife and the human population underscore the importance of this transaction. Additionally, this deal highlights Bird & Bird’s sector-leading expertise in the sustainability sector.”
