International law firm Bird & Bird and City A.M. last night announced the winners of Digital Innovators 2018 – Digi.me in the life changer category and what3words in the market transformer category.
After careful consideration by the judges including CBI, Crowdcube, Hotwire and 2017's Digital Innovators Yoti, EdAid and Seenit, the winners were chosen as leading examples of digital companies which are truly changing people's lives or transforming businesses in their respective markets.
Digi.me allows consumers to take back control of their personal data – providing users with tools to collect, search and secure their data in one encrypted source, as well as giving them the option to decide whether or not to share their private data with other apps.
What3words is trying to fix the problem of poor addressing around the world using a simple solution – they've divided the world into 3m by 3m squares and assigned each one with a unique address using three every day words. The company argues that a simple three word address is easier and quicker for consumers to remember and to describe. It also has a wide range of applications, from making deliveries and GPS navigation devices better, to helping with foreign aid and rescue efforts.
The two winners will receive a tailored package of professional support to help take their businesses to the next level.
Shing Lo, Partner at Bird & Bird says: "With the increasing amount of investment in London's technology sector, the City's position on the global digital stage has never been more important. This year's winners of Digital Innovators, London-based companies Digi.me and what3words, are excellent examples of the many ways in which technology is transforming the world. Alongside City A.M. and our partners, we are thrilled to recognise these inspiring companies and provide them with a network and the professional support they need to further develop their businesses."
