International law firm Bird & Bird has advised energy company St1 Nordic Oy, headquartered in Finland, on its acquisition of Brocklesby Ltd.
Based in the UK, Brocklesby is a recycling waste food expert, being one of the UK’s leading refiners in this field. The business is based on strong partnerships with a large number of restaurants, retailers and food manufacturers in the UK, collecting over 46,000 tonnes of output annually.
The acquisition of Brocklesby will strengthen St1’s value chain further upstream towards feedstock collection for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. A new biorefinery is under construction on the St1 refinery site in Gothenburg, Sweden, expected to commence operations in 2023.
The Bird & Bird team advised St1 on the acquisition and was jointly led by partners Laura Huomo (Energy, Finland) and Nick O’Donnell (Corporate, London), with support from associates Remy Browning and Francesca Mansell (Corporate, London).
Henrikki Talvitie, CEO of St1, says: “It was a pleasure working with Bird & Bird. The team’s advice and support on this acquisition will help us on our journey to solve global energy challenges. Their outstanding work and excellent communication was key to the timely success of the transaction. I look forward to working with them in the future as we continue to grow in this new business area.”
Laura Huomo, Energy partner at Bird & Bird says: “We are very pleased to have advised St1 on this exciting acquisition and its growth within the renewable energy space. The deal is a great example of our longstanding experience within the M&A and renewable energy sector and we look forward to working with the St1 team also in the future.”
