Benjamin McDermott

I am a lawyer in our Corporate practice in Sydney.

I get involved in a wide range of matters for market-leading and cutting-edge clients. My current practice is focused on matters involving M&A, regulatory compliance and foreign investment.

My unique combination of experience working in private practice, the not-for-profit sector and the arts enables me to assist a variety of clients to reach creative solutions to complex and novel problems. When collaborating with clients involved in disputes, I particularly enjoy focusing on understanding the finer details of the dispute and driving the matter toward a harmonious resolution.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird, I worked at a top-ranked Australasian boutique entertainment law firm, peak Australian copyright law bodies and as a session musician. I have also held positions on the management committee of the Copyright Society of Australia.

I hold degrees in music, criminology and law and have published, reviewed publications and interviewed on copyright law, particularly copyright infringement. I continue to research and contribute to publications on recent developments and theoretical explorations involving corporate law and copyright & related rights.
