Cristel Chong

I am an employment lawyer in our International Employment group based in Singapore and assist a diverse base of multinational clients throughout various stages of the employment life cycle.

As part of Bird & Bird's International Employment Law team based in Singapore, I am able to coordinate advice for employment matters in regions beyond Singapore and ASEAN.

I strive to work closely with clients to understand and manage their employment requirements and to develop strategic and viable human resource strategies which best suit business and operational needs. Working with both international and domestic corporations of all sizes in both private and public sectors, as well as acting for individuals, I offer clients a comprehensive range of legal advice across the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious employment law.

My area of expertise comprises a broad range of matters including drafting and advising clients on employment contracts, HR policies and procedures, corporate reorganisation and restructuring, retrenchment exercises, termination of employees, compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, handling employee investigations and advising on the enforceability of restrictive covenants. I also regularly advise clients on various immigration issues relating to their foreign workforce and assist clients with the application and renewal processes for various passes and permits for its foreign employees.

My background in dispute resolution has informed my ability to delicately balance client interests with the need to minimise risk exposure.
