David Gent

I am a Legal Director in our Corporate group in London where my current role includes a mix of client work, lawyer training, professional support, internal transactional work, and other firm project work.

I have extensive experience advising clients in corporate transactions. I am used to advising companies through their life cycle – from creation through funding to exit, with corporate advisory support at each stage. I have previously advised a number of clients from initial external investment rounds to listings on the London Stock Exchange. My particular areas of transactional expertise are in relation to venture capital investments and mergers and acquisitions, often with a cross-border element and primarily for technology companies.

My extended role allows me to use my experience in transactional and project work for internal projects. Recent projects include coordinating regulatory registrations for our new office in Dublin and participating in working groups considering the impact of Brexit for our clients and the firm. I really enjoy helping to train the next generation of the firm's corporate lawyers, and I also like having the time to consider in detail some of the technical questions we as a group encounter on English corporate law.

Before joining Bird & Bird in 2009, I spent ten years working in the corporate department of a leading US law firm's London office, including seven as a partner.

• Advising on the issue of a legal opinion in relation to a contingent payment arrangement for a client in the gambling industry
• Advising on various substantial capital reductions and dividends
