Dr. Alexander Schröder-Frerkes, LL.M.

As an Of Counsel in our international Corporate Practice Group and a seasoned corporate and M&A lawyer with more than 25 years' experience, I have specific expertise in the energy, financial services, automotive and aviation sectors.

From 2007 to 2014 I was the managing partner of our German offices, head of our international Corporate Practice Group and a member of our Global Management Committee.

Today I advise our international and domestic clients on M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions, public takeovers, MBOs, group valuations, restructurings and reorganisations as well as joint ventures. With extensive corporate and M&A expertise, I have advised on various large operations on behalf of our energy and utilities and aviation clients.

In addition to my legal practice, I lecture regularly and am the author of a series of publications. I am also an active member of numerous national and international associations including the International Bar Association and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since 1998, I have been a member of the board of the American Chamber of Commerce (NRW Chapter) and have served as its Chairman since 2008. I have also served on the advisory board of Düsseldorf Airport since 2001.

In 2010, I was awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit – Bundesverdienstkreuz – by the former President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler, for my contribution to the German-American relationship.

Before co-founding the German offices of Bird & Bird, I was a member of the managing board of a leading German law firm, and from 1993 to 1994 worked as a foreign associate in the Chicago office of a major American law firm.
