Eszter Katona

I am a Consultant in the Corporate/M&A team of the Budapest office focusing on M&A transactions and other corporate matters. I also have significant experience in energy law.

Since starting my career, I have advised a variety of leading Hungarian and international companies across a variety of sectors including energy, finance, telecommunications, and retail. I have particular experience in advising clients concerning complex multi-phase group restructurings.
In the area of mergers and acquisitions, I have participated in the coordination and conduction of legal due diligences, the drafting and negotiation of transaction documents as well as the coordination of signing and closing proceedings.

In the area of energy law, I have assisted clients in the electricity sector on a wide range of end-user electricity transactions. I have advised investors on incentive schemes in relation to renewable, waste-based and cogeneration power plant projects. As part of my gas industry experience, I have advised clients on licensing and other regulatory matters, including gas-fired power plant developments. I have also represented clients regarding natural gas sales agreements as well as agreements related to the exploration and exploitation of natural gas fields.

Before joining the team at Bird & Bird in 2024, I worked at another major international law firm, where I focused on M&A, corporate law, and energy law. In addition to my native Hungarian, I am fluent in English.
