About Me

I am a senior associate in our Dispute Resolution Group, based in The Hague. I specialise in commercial litigation with a focus on technology.

In recent years, I have been involved in contentious civil matters, with both national and international aspects, including contractual disputes and liability issues in the technology & (tele)communications, insurance and construction sectors. In addition, I deal with lease disputes (commercial and residential) as well as IT and software development disputes.

Matters I deal with often involve factual and technical complexity, so that it is not always just a matter of assessing the legal elements. By paying attention to all elements of a dispute we can support clients in finding solutions that benefit their business, whilst at the same time considering the sustainability of their valuable relationships with others. A considerable number of my matters are characterised by the involvement of public administration, either because they concern a regulated subject or because one of the parties involved is a public body. Of course, our involvement includes litigation or arbitration and, in a later phase, the enforcement of a judgment. I also have ample experience in pre-judgment seizure of assets.

Being a litigation lawyer, I particularly enjoy converting our clients' position into a substantiated legal argumentation. I like presenting a legal or factual, and often technical, position on behalf of clients in an inventive, strategic and/or practical way, depending on the resolution sought.

I am the chair of the Works Council of our firm's Dutch offices in Amsterdam and The Hague. Moreover, I am participating in our local D&I committee and Recruitment Team. From 2020 to 2023 I was an executive board member of the Association of Young Litigation Lawyers (VJP) enabling me to connect with colleagues at other firms and to keep on top of relevant legal developments and knowledge. I am the co-author of 'Het ex parte bevel', a handbook on IP law enforcement (Maas & Maalderink, BJu, Den Haag, 2016).
Cases
  • I represented a major global market leader in the life science sector in a dispute and proceedings on the merits involving an equity transaction, a loan agreement and the related transfer of certifications and clearances from a variety of governmental agencies. The matter was closely related to directors' liability and various attachments were placed. All claims were eventually awarded by the court in The Hague, in favour of the client.
  • I represented a marine engineering expert and its professional indemnity insurer in proceedings in which the expert was the subject of a claim by an insured party for asserted errors in their professional services. Our combined expertise in law and technical approach resulted in bringing the case to a successful outcome.
  • I have been representing a wide range of suppliers, developers and customers in the field of electronic services and products for many years, mostly regarding contractual disputes on the respective obligations or responsibilities of the parties (both during and following termination), whether obligations have been met and what fees or damage are due. Many of the matters involve questions of international private law, attachments, (provisional) cease-and-desist orders with penalties and subsequent enforcement.
  • I represented an major global client in a dispute with several Dutch internet service providers (ISPs), in which we successfully initiated preliminary relief proceedings to demand the immediate take down of hundreds of email accounts used by an anonymous perpetrator for stalking and threatening, and to be provided with the personal data of the customer of the ISPs.
  • My team and I represented a multinational in a dispute on whether the counterparty - a major European company - was obliged to purchase a certain minimum amount of services from our client and whether it would have to pay the remaining amount of this minimum spend commitment. All claims were awarded.
