Peter van Gemert

I am a partner in our Intellectual Property Group in The Hague and a member of our Tech & Comms team.

With a technical background in aerospace engineering, I specialise in patent litigation and advising in all fields of technology.

Since joining Bird & Bird, firstly as a paralegal in 2013 while still a student and then as an associate in 2015, I have been involved in complex and multijurisdictional patent litigation. Learning about new technology and the client's business surrounding the technology is what has drawn me to these cases.

I have experience in patent cases ranging from chip design and telecom standards to asthma and MS medication, in each case bringing detailed understanding of the technology involved which allows a clear presentation of the issues and arguments to the court. I try to think outside the box and develop new strategies and solutions tailored to the clients' needs in each case.

New developments provide opportunities for further growth and increased efficiency in our overall work, and I have been involved in preparing our firm in the Netherlands for the Unified Patent Court and the digitalisation of the court docket system. I continue to look out for new opportunities and changes in improving the way we work.
