Tom Lambert

I am a senior associate based in our London office, advising clients within the sports and media sectors on a wide range of commercial and contractual matters.

I advise a variety of sports industry rights holders and stakeholders (including governing bodies, event organisers, teams/clubs, sponsors, broadcasters and investors) in relation to their key commercial arrangements, in particular advising in relation to media and sponsorship rights agreements, licensing, merchandising and retail matters, investment and joint venture arrangements and event organisation. I have advised clients across a range of major sports, including football, rugby union, rugby league, motor sports, tennis, cricket, sailing, horse racing and esports. During my time at Bird & Bird I have also undertaken a client secondment to the Commercial Legal team at FIFA.

Before joining Bird & Bird, I was in-house counsel at a leading sports marketing agency and prior to that a Managing Associate and Co-Head of the Sports Sector practice at a magic circle law firm.

• Advising sponsor on front of shirt sponsorship agreement with Premier League football club
• Advising a number of Premier League football clubs (including Arsenal F.C., Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. and Chelsea F.C.) on a range of commercial matters
• Advising DAZN in relation to a number of media rights acquisition processes
• Acting for the Six Nations on various media and sponsorship rights agreements
• Acting for Getir on its appointment as training kit sponsor of Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
• Advising the Caribbean Premier League on title sponsorship agreement with Republic Bank
• Acting for international sports competition on numerous matters concerning their retail and product/merchandise licensing programme, including in relation to their e-commerce platform
• Acting for the United Rugby Championship on numerous commercial and regulatory matters, including in relation to media rights arrangements
• Advising the British & Irish Lions on various commercial arrangements in relation to the 2021 tour to South Africa, including sponsorship and media arrangements and the 2021 tour agreement
• Advising a national governing body on a number of matters relating to the staging of a new competition
