The legislative proposal was adopted by the Swedish Parliament on 21 October 2020 and entered into force on 1 December 2020. The Directive is mainly implemented through amendments in the Swedish Radio and Television Act (2010:696).

National particular circumstances

In some cases the Swedish regulation goes beyond the minimum requirements of the Directive. For instance, the Swedish Radio and Television Act includes a ban on advertising directed at children under the age of twelve years' old and a ban on interrupting children's programs with advertising. Furthermore the Swedish Alcohol Act (2010:1622) includes a ban on alcohol advertising.
