For the latest videos in our Infrastructure Video Series, Simon Phippard met senior management of client Urban-Air Port in 2022 about their launch of Air One, the world’s first fully operational urban airport for drones and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, in Coventry. Our series covers the challenges faced by Air One, and the ground infrastructure for advanced aerial mobility solutions.
Over three weeks, more than 100 successful drone flights were demonstrated to an audience of over 15,000 visitors including global businesses, government officials, the press, schools and academia, and the general public.
Supported by the UK Government’s Future Flight Challenge programme, Air One was designed as a demonstrator to show how purpose-built ground infrastructure can unleash the potential of advanced air mobility (AAM) technology to decarbonise transport and cut air pollution and congestion, whilst providing seamless passenger journeys and deliveries.
Bird & Bird have been advising Urban-Air Port on financial, legal and regulatory issues associated with getting Air One to the demonstrator stage. In our first video, we speak with Ricky Sandhu, founder and Executive Chairman, about the vision for the project and what Urban-Air Port is seeking to achieve.
