Our hybrid event hosted in Dublin spotlighted the rapidly evolving new regulatory focus of online safety which is set to have a dramatic impact on digital businesses around the world.
New regulatory frameworks directed at online safety are emerging in multiple jurisdictions/ regions around the world, including at EU level, in Ireland, the UK, Australia and Singapore. The ensuing compliance regimes created by these new national and regional laws are set to trigger a wholesale shift in mindset, culture and operations for multiple industries across the digital ecosystem, by requiring significant changes in areas such as content moderation, risk assessment and mitigation, protection of children and reporting and transparency. Whilst there are fundamental differences across the various regimes being introduced around the world, there are also areas of overlap, presenting in-scope businesses with an opportunity to develop and implement compliance solutions which satisfy more than one set of regulatory requirements. Navigating this jigsaw of laws to understand their scope and requirements, and identify their commonalities and differences, will be a big challenge.
Bird & Bird online safety experts explored online safety developments in the EU, Ireland, the UK, Singapore and Australia, and highlighted the headline issues that businesses need to start planning for.
