MES Contract Law Seminar Part 1

We would be delighted to welcome you to our Contract Law Seminar 2022 for Media, Entertainment & Sports lawyers.

The Seminar will be delivered online by Bird & Bird partner Andrew White, along with colleagues from our International Media, Entertainment and Sports Group. The Seminar will run as a webinar in two parts, on separate dates.

As usual, our goal is to provide you with in-depth, up-to-date knowledge, combined with practical and commercially focused insights.

16:00 - 17:00

Welcome: Christian Bartsch, CEO

Introduction: Andrew White & Georgie Twigg

Contract Law cases: Andrew White will cover a milestone Supreme Court decision on the enforceability of a clause in a Non-Disclosure Agreement, and lessons learnt (Your Lawyers v Harcus Sinclair); the Supreme Court's restatement of the law on duress and when it is permissible to exit a contract because you were allegedly subject to illegitimate pressure to sign (Times Travel v PIA); and cases on the impact of Covid on contracts, including Premier League v PPLive, and European Professional Rugby v RDA.

17:00 - 17:30 Commercial Trends: Tom Lambert and Alex Dixie will provide an overview of the key commercial trends that our Media, Entertainment & Sport team is observing across the sector, including: a shift in the types of brands sponsoring sports rightsholders and consequential legal implications; how advances in technology are changing the opportunities in media rights arrangements and consequently the relationships between broadcasters/media providers and rightsholders; updates on some of the ways that rightsholders and sponsors/media providers are looking to apportion and mitigate risk; and monetisation of fan/consumer data.

This Seminar will be chaired and facilitated by Georgie Twigg.
