Bird & Bird boosts Finance & Financial Regulation practice with arrival of new partner Andries Doets in the Netherlands

International law firm Bird & Bird today strengthens its Finance & Financial Regulation practice in the Netherlands with the hire of new partner, Andries Doets, in The Hague.

With over 20 years’ experience, Andries advises businesses and financial institutions on a wide range of matters concerning Dutch and European financial regulation and transactions including domestic and cross-border acquisitions. Andries’ scope of expertise includes regulatory litigation and assisting clients in supervisory investigations. Andries has extensive experience advising FinTech companies on payment services regulations (PSD2), electronic money regulations (EMD2) and crypto-asset regulations (MiCAR). He is an expert in anti-money laundering regulations as well as economic sanctions.

Following the recent hire of finance partners Floor van Heijst (Amsterdam), Federico Del Monte and Corrado Fiscale (both Milan), Andries’ arrival is a key part of the strategic growth of Bird & Bird’s international Finance & Financial Regulation practice across the Bird & Bird network.

Evelyn Tjon-En-Fa and Marc van Wijngaarden, co-heads of Bird & Bird in the Netherlands, comment: “We are very pleased to welcome Andries to our Finance & Financial Regulation team in the Netherlands. His experience in the FinTech and regulatory litigation space will be a significant boost to our growing practice in the Netherlands.”

Joss Hargrave, Michael Jünemann and Giuseppe D'Agostino, co-heads of the international Finance & Financial Regulation practice, say: “Andries brings a wealth of knowledge that will be instrumental in expanding Bird & Bird’s international Finance & Financial Regulation practice in the Netherlands and across Europe. His expertise advising FinTech companies and financial institutions on domestic and cross-border acquisitions makes him an excellent fit to support our clients in the Netherlands and globally.”

Andries adds, "I am delighted to join Bird & Bird’s Financial & Financial Regulation practice in the Netherlands at an exciting time of ambitious growth, particularly in the Dutch financial services market. The firm’s strong international network, alongside its market leading reputation in technology and innovation, will provide me with a strong platform to support Dutch and international clients with their financial regulatory needs.”
