Bird & Bird advises Capital Stage on the acquisition of a UK-based solar park from SPI Energy

International law firm Bird & Bird has advised Capital Stage AG, the German wind and solar operator, on their £4.7 million acquisition of a UK-based solar park from Chinese firm SPI Energy Co. Ltd.

Capital Stage acquired the Lancashire based 4.5MW solar project from SPI China (HK) Ltd., a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed SPI Energy Co., Ltd.

The deal was completed in a tight timescale to secure the project's eligibility for ROC.

This project is another example of why Bird & Bird is ranked as the most active law firm in European energy M&A and Project Finance. Bird & Bird advised on the corporate, commercial (including EPC & O&M), regulatory, real estate and finance aspects of the transaction.

The team was led by Elizabeth Reid (Partner, Commercial/Regulatory) and Matt Bonass (Partner, Corporate), who were assisted by Will Porter and Andrew Collins (Associates, Corporate), Emma Cordiner and Emma Brindley (Associates, Real Estate), Rhianna Wilsher (Associate, Commercial/Regulatory) and Jenny Stockford (Legal Director, Banking & Finance).

Bird & Bird worked alongside national law firm, Freeths LLP and the team included Catherine Burke (Partner, Energy) and Paul Thorogood (Partner, Commercial/Real Estate).

Elizabeth Reid, Partner in the Commercial Group at Bird & Bird, says: "We were delighted to advise Capital Stage on this transaction and we look forward to working with the team on projects going forward as the company expands its solar capacity in the UK."

Quirin Busse, Investment Manager at Capital Stage says: "The team at Bird & Bird have a strong understanding of the industry so we knew we were in safe hands. They helped us successfully manage a time sensitive project, one which was very important to us as we are continuously expanding our solar footprint in the UK. We enjoy working with Bird & Bird and we look forward to working with the team again in the near future."
