International law firm Bird & Bird has advised HomeServe Group’s further expansion into the plumbing, heating and air conditioning sector (HVAC), through the acquisition of six additional HVAC companies in Germany in 2024.
HomeServe was founded in the UK over 30 years ago and, in addition to Germany and the UK, also operates in the US, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Japan. The company entered the German market at the end of 2021 and, as part of its steady expansion of the HVAC industry in Germany in 2024, was able to increase its previous year's revenue from approximately EUR 50 million (2023) to EUR 100 million. To achieve this, HomeServe is building a group of tradespeople across Germany, in which the companies retain their regional identity while also benefiting from the group's strength and global network.
The rapid expansion of HomeServe Group continued in 2024, and further growth is targeted for 2025. After numerous successfully completed acquisitions in the past two years, the group has increased the number of acquired companies from eight at the beginning of 2024 to a current total of 21 regionally successful plumbing and heating companies. The acquired companies complement HomeServe's portfolio and strengthen its cross-regional representation in the SME sector.
Throughout the beginning of 2025, Bird & Bird continues to advise on the completion of HomeServe’s acquisition of Natelberg Group in Rhauderfehn. The acquisition adds a total of 177 new colleagues as well as a large and successful plumbing and heating company in northern Germany to HomeServe’s portfolio. With the completion of this transaction, HomeServe's German plumbing and heating group now has more than 1,100 employees spread across 21 companies.
In addition to advising on HomeServe Group’s further expansion in Germany, Bird & Bird also advises on the respective integration of the companies into the group, as well as on general corporate and tax law issues.
Dr. Sandra Schuh, Corporate partner at Bird & Bird, comments: ‘We are delighted that HomeServe will continue to rely on us and that we will be able to work together on future transactions as well. Our cooperation to date has been based on a shared understanding of a trusting and respectful relationship in order to optimally shape the further development of the respective companies.’
