Adam Smart

I am a lawyer in our international Aviation & Aerospace Group, based in Hong Kong. I specialise in advising clients in connection with cross-border aviation related transactions.

I have extensive experience working on a wide range of finance, trading and leasing transactions in the aviation sector (including both commercial aircraft and private jets). My work involves sale and leasebacks, portfolio aircraft sale and purchases, commercial financings and refinancings of aircraft, ECA-backed financings and syndicated debt, almost all of which have an international element.

Throughout my career, I have represented a variety of clients across the aviation sector including lessors, airlines, aircraft managers, banks and other financial institutions, which allows me to understand transactions and the needs of the parties (including our client) from different perspectives.

Before joining Bird & Bird, I worked for other international law firms in Hong Kong, Singapore and London. Working in numerous jurisdictions, with clients and counterparties across the world, has enabled me to develop the skills and experience needed to seamlessly and efficiently coordinate multi-jurisdictional transactions for our clients.
