China

Bird & Bird have been doing business in China for almost 30 years. We use our extensive experience in China to help domestic and multinational clients navigate the complexities of China’s business and regulatory environment.

Our Hong Kong office was established in 1995 to meet the growing demand of our international clients wanting to undertake business in China and more widely throughout Asia. This was followed by our offices in Beijing in 2004, in Shanghai in 2008, and recently in Shenzhen in 2020. Our China offices operate as a collaborative integrated practice, and assists clients with their complex business activities throughout the broader China region, as well as advising Chinese state-owned and private companies on their outbound investment opportunities.

Our China practice is sector focused and we provide clients with the full range of commercial services including corporate and advisory matters, M&A, foreign direct investment, corporate finance, private equity, IT and communications, protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights and brand management matters, regulatory and compliance, employment, energy and utilities, competition law, environmental, sport, and on all forms of dispute resolution.

Our lawyers also regularly assist clients with their multi-jurisdictional cross-border activities throughout the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

In 2009 Bird & Bird also entered into an association with local Chinese law firm, Lawjay Partners. Through this association we can further assist clients in contentious IP matters in Mainland China by litigating in the Chinese Courts.

In November 2017, we established a co-operation agreement with AllBright Law Offices (“AllBright”).  This agreement primarily sees us support AllBright's domestic Chinese clients with their international expansion ambitions, providing these companies with access to our 32 offices in 22 countries.
