Bird & Bird has represented Avalanche Studios in relation to the recent investment by Nordisk Film of more than USD 10M for a minority ownership share in Avalanche Studios.
Avalanche Studios is a leading open world game developer dedicated to creating huge open worlds, full of explosive, emergent gameplay. With offices in Stockholm and New York, the company is known to the public as the creator of the Just Cause franchise, Mad Max and the Hunter. Avalanche was founded in Stockholm 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg, and focuses on developing games and other media on the basis of its proprietary technology platform the "Avalanche Engine".
Nordisk Film is part of the Egmont Group, a leading media group in the Nordic region with activities in 30 countries and more than 6,000 employees, producing high-quality content and digital innovation.
The investment allows Avalanche Studios to accelerate its work with the development of self-published games and its growth in the international gaming market. Through the investment, Nordisk Film takes another step in its ambitious growth strategy of investing in Nordic gaming studios.
