As a partner in our corporate team in Düsseldorf I have advised our national and international clients since 2007 on M&A, VC Investments as well as domestic and cross-border reorganisations.

Bird & Bird has advised the lead investor Ranpak Holdings Corp. and their co-investors on their investment in Creapaper GmbH. The total series B financing round amounted to 20 million EUR.

Ranpak is a leading global provider of environmentally sustainable, paper-based packaging solutions for e-commerce and industrial supply chains. Creapaper is the inventor of grass paper and provider of grass paper products. Creapaper uses a patented process to produce graspap, a raw material required for producing grass paper, which helps reduce CO2 emissions and water consumption across the global paper and packaging industry. The company has been rapidly expanding its reach across Europe through its development and placement of CO2-saving grass paper products such as hygienic papers, food & carrying bags and single-use plastic replacements with retail clients in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and Italy.

Ranpak's strategic investment reflects their continued commitment to sustainability and the use of natural substrates to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions. Creapaper's innovative grass paper products are well suited for expansion in global markets and complement Ranpak's core paper products and sustainable packaging solutions.

Ranpak Holdings Corp and its co-investors were advised by the following Bird & Bird lawyers: lead partner Dr. Stefanie Orttmann, LL.M., associates Jan Medele, Daniel Klare and Felix Spindler, (all Corporate/M&A, Düsseldorf), partner Dr. Matthias Winter, associates Stanislav Schmidt and Pascal Leitmann, (all Finance & Financial Regulation, Frankfurt), partner Dr. Claus Becker, (Patent Law, Munich), partner Dr. Catharina Klumpp, LL.M. and associate Friederike Hunsteger, (both Employment, Düsseldorf), partner Dr. Matthias Lang and associate Dr. Tobias Büscher, (both Regulatory & Administrative, Düsseldorf), partner Lennart Schüßler and counsel Lea Noemi Mackert, LL.M., (both IT/Data Protection, Düsseldorf), partner Dr. Stephan Waldheim, (Antitrust Law, Düsseldorf).
