Bird & Bird advises Flylogix on its £3 million equity investment from BP ventures

Bird & Bird LLP advises Flylogix ("Flylogix Limited") on its latest funding round with a £3 million equity investment from bp ventures (“BP p.l.c.”). The cash injection from bp is part of Flylogix’s current fundraise totaling £6 million, led by Amati Global.

UK-based Flylogix is a pioneering unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) business that uses drones for methane detection. Flylogix combines its UAV with artificial intelligence, satellite communications, and methane sensor technology, to monitor methane in remote locations. Flylogix holds the UK record for the longest commercial drone flight and has worked with bp since 2018 to monitor assets across the UK North Sea.

The investment supports bp’s Net Zero ambitions, installing methane measurement on all existing major oil and gas processing sites by 2023 and delivering a 50% reduction in methane intensity across its operations. Flylogix will leverage the funding to expand internationally, including the US, Norway, and Trinidad & Tobago. It will also crossover into the biodiversity and renewable energy industries, conducting wind turbine blade inspections for offshore sites.

This transaction demonstrates Bird & Bird’s commitment to supporting innovation in the technology and climate tech sectors and advising clients on drones, technology, and AI investment projects.

The Bird & Bird team was led by partner Clive Hopewell (Corporate, London), legal director Dhruv Chhatralia (Corporate, London), and associate William Alms (Corporate, London).

Charles Tavner, CEO of Flylogix, says: "We have been impressed with the clear and commercial advice, as well as the technical knowledge of the Bird & Bird team. This latest investment supports Flylogix’s growth strategy to expand our UAV technology internationally, and we are proud to build on our existing partnership with bp in pursuit of our Net Zero ambitions.”

Clive Hopewell, partner at Bird & Bird, says: “We are delighted to support such an exciting company leading the way in unmanned aerial vehicle technology and methane detection. We look forward to continuing to work together to achieve the team’s strategic goals as the business continues to expand.”
