International law firm Bird & Bird today appoints globally recognised procurement and public law specialist, Andrew Dean, as partner in its Commercial practice in London.
With over 15 years’ experience of supporting clients at the intersection of government and business, Andrew advises on market-first and internationally significant transactions, contentious procurement and public law matters, and regulatory and policy development matters. He acts for both public sector and private sector clients and has a particular focus on regulated sectors such as energy, rail, defence, water, healthcare and telecoms.
Described in Chambers and Partners as a “top-class operator”, Andrew joins from Clifford Chance, where he led the firm’s procurement and public law practice since 2018. He previously spent six years working within the UK Government as a senior lawyer.
Andrew’s arrival follows a succession of new partner appointments at Bird & Bird as part of its strategic growth trajectory. The firm welcomed six new partners across its international network in October.
Phil Sherrell, head of the London office at Bird & Bird, says: “Our London team continues to go from strength to strength and Andrew’s appointment is an important part of our strategic expansion. His arrival will bolster our firm’s procurement and public law capabilities at a time when client demand for specialist support in this area continues to soar.”
Stuart Cairns, partner and co-head of Bird & Bird’s International Projects and Procurement Group, comments: “Andrew is a valuable addition to our International Public Projects and Procurement Group, which is the largest international team of lawyers dedicated to procurement law in the world. His impressive track record of establishing new practices from the ground up, combined with his background in Central Government, means he’s uniquely positioned to support our clients in navigating new and untested legal regimes. Andrew’s arrival strengthens our firm’s global reach and capabilities in supporting our clients on highly complicated public law and public affairs matters.”
Andrew Dean adds: "I am excited to be joining Bird & Bird’s market-leading practice during this period of ambitious growth. I look forward to working with my new colleagues from across the firm’s international network to build on the strong foundation already in place. Bird & Bird’s cultural focus on innovation and collaboration enhances our ability to provide clients with integrated, solutions-focused support on complex projects, both in the UK and internationally.”
