Bird & Bird advises NürnbergMesse on joint venture with Messe München

International law firm Bird & Bird has advised NürnbergMesse, one of the 15 largest exhibition companies in the world, on the formation of a joint venture with Messe München. The merger of two mayor exhibitions from both companies into one is the largest merger of two trade fair flagships in Germany to date.

In the newly formed joint venture, NürnbergMesse and Messe München are combining the two internationally most important trade fairs for the beverage and liquid food industry, with BrauBeviale in Nuremberg, the leading capital goods trade fair for the beverage industry in Europe, and drinktec from Munich, the world's leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry, thus strengthening their joint position on the world market.

Both trade fairs will continue to operate as independent brands, retain their names, and keep their events at their respective locations in Munich and Nuremberg, but will exist under the shared umbrella of YONTEX. According to Peter Ottmann, CEO of the NürnbergMesse Group, both exhibition companies are seizing a unique opportunity to position themselves jointly and join their forces in the global market.

Bird & Bird Client Relationship Partner of NürnbergMesse, Stefan Münch, commented: “Bird & Bird LLP has been advising NürnbergMesse for many years throughout several jurisdictions, including China, Germany and Greece. After assisting NürnbergMesse in its take-over of T4M – Technology for Medical Devices back in 2021, we are proud to have been selected as NürnbergMesse’s trusted industry expert for this joint venture between the 2 biggest Bavarian exhibitions centres.

NürnbergMesse was advised by the following Bird & Bird lawyers: partner Dr. Marc Seeger and associate Jan Medele (both lead), associates Henrike Camphausen and Felix Spindler, LL.M. (all Corporate/M&A, Düsseldorf), partner Thomas Hey, associate Linus Boberg, LL.M. (both Employment, Düsseldorf), partner Dr. Jörg Witting, associate Maren Steiert (both Competition, Düsseldorf), partner Dr. Joseph Fesenmair, counsel Niklas Fels, LL.M. and Clarissa Otto (all IP, Munich), senior counsel Elie Kaufman, LL.M., associate Amelia Weber (both Real Estate, Frankfurt), associate Gökhan Kosak (Commercial, Munich), as well as associate Aubrey Tao (Corporate/M&A, Shanghai), partner Christine Yiu, associates Leon Li and Olivia Zhao (all IP, Shanghai).
