International law firm Bird & Bird and Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association have agreed to start a pro bono partnership from the beginning of 2025.
Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association is a non-profit organisation that promotes the well-being, comfort, and safety of marine and lake environments through concrete actions, for example by maintaining the tidiness of the Baltic Sea and its archipelago. Through this partnership, Bird & Bird will provide legal advice to Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association and thus support the protection of the Baltic Sea. The collaboration will allow the organisation to focus even more on environmental protection and promoting sustainable development.
Pia Ek, partner in charge of pro bono work at Bird & Bird’s Helsinki office comments: “We are delighted to support the important work of Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association by offering our core expertise. Additionally, the Baltic Sea and its well-being are close to our staff’s hearts, making this pro bono partnership a very meaningful way for us to support the association’s mission.”
Mikko Ahonen, Bird & Bird’s Managing Partner in Finland: “Pro bono work is an integral part of our firm’s global five-year strategy. Additionally, this initiative supports our firm’s commitment to the UN SDGs, especially in supporting environmentally sustainable development.”
Anne Ala-Pöllänen, Fundraising Manager at Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association comments: “We are very pleased with the support offered by Bird & Bird. This partnership allows us to focus even more on protecting the Baltic Sea, and we receive invaluable assistance with legal issues that affect almost every organization today.”
Maintaining the tidiness of the Baltic Sea’s shores and archipelago is an important topic for Bird & Bird in the Nordics. Bird & Bird’s office in Stockholm has also started collaborating with the local Keep the Archipelago Tidy organisation.
