Bird & Bird welcomes back Wilfred Ng as a partner in the Tech & Comms team in Hong Kong

International law firm Bird & Bird welcomes back Wilfred Ng as a partner in the Tech & Comms team, based in Hong Kong. He started at the firm on the 1st of November.

Wilfred joins from Tencent’s International Privacy and Data Protection Department where he was Senior Legal Counsel, specialising in data protection and privacy issues. Before this role, he was a technology, media, telecoms and data protection lawyer at Bird & Bird in the Hong Kong office, with a secondment in the London Commercial practice covering a range of commercial regulatory and corporate transactional matters in the TMT space.

At Bird & Bird, Wilfred will focus on growing the existing Tech & Comms sector group in Hong Kong and across the wider APAC region. Wilfred’s expertise across the TMT and data protection space, and his skillset as a bilingual (Chinese & English) partner, will expand the team’s capabilities to engage with a wide variety of clients involving cross-border matters.

Ted Chwu, head of Bird & Bird’s office in China, says: “We’re delighted that Wilfred is returning to Bird & Bird. With Wilfred’s expertise, we are perfectly positioned to service clients on both a regional and international level. It’s a dynamic team at an exciting time for the TMT market in APAC. Having Wilfred on board will allow us to maintain and consolidate our position as one of the leading Tech & Comms teams in Greater China, and also help accelerate our growth into the Greater Bay Area.”

Marjolein Geus, chair of the international Tech & Comms sector group, comments: “Wilfred will bring across a virtually unparalleled set of skills comprising bilingual abilities, genuine specialism in all aspects of TMT and an insider appreciation of client demands, thanks to his background as an in-house advisor. Wilfred’s unique vantage point will significantly strengthen Bird & Bird’s Tech & Comms offering in APAC.”

Wilfred says: “I’m very excited for this incredible opportunity and thrilled to be returning to Bird & Bird – a firm focused on supporting organisations being changed by the digital world or those leading that change. I look forward to working with my Bird & Bird colleagues, both old and new, and joining a team of talented TMT lawyers who share my genuine passion to be a part of the changes brought on by technology. I’m excited for what lies ahead as we continue to grow Bird & Bird’s capabilities in the TMT market in Greater China.”
